Podcoin

Similar to how supermarkets may visually divide a shop into sections using colour, I thought we could do the same with out interface to aid navigation. Colour is the fasted read visual information format before shape and icon.

Navigation version 1 • David Valente

Each came with a respective icon to represent each tab and the screens within each tab would be themed with the toolbar. I tried to make this work but it continued to fail in this context. Maybe in another project.

Logo ideation • David Valente

For the logomark we went through a number of iterations bouncing between algae and traditional coin aesthetics. We also needed to consider our logo in text at small point size so would need a logo for that. Looking at the  breadth of global currency symbols, there are a lot of letters with one or two lines striking through them. We experimented with this aesthetic and ended up with one logo we could use in text and for advertising.

This app Podcoin, rewards users with credits in the app for listening to any podcast. It functions identically to any other podcast client pulling in audio files from RSS feeds, however, for every 10 minutes you listen you earn 1 Podcoin. So that’s 14 days of listening for the $5 PayPal gift card. Anyway, the primary destination for the users money is supposed to be one of the charities they list in the app, that you can select as an alternative to PayPal, Amazon or goods like Bose headphones or and Amazon Echo.

Similar to our product users earn currency for time invested with the platform and there are few goods users can spend their currency on, currently. The app includes a leaderboard, which for a user seems completely redundant as it provides nothing to me other than someone else as earned more coin than me. However, it has a tab in this screen to filter by who has donated the most of their coin. This all seems great, however it does not show what data they are selling to who and for how much. This leaderboard also felt crude in implementation and too much like a gimmick in a childs game, thus this helped us decide not include one on our platform.
